Launch of Fair Trade Directory

The importance of paying a fair price for the goods that farmers in the developing world produce was stressed by Jamie Reed, MP, at the launch of the Fair Produce Directory at the Farmer’s Market on Friday 18th May. When we commemorate the Abolition of Slavery Act, it is unacceptable that people are still working in slave conditions to cut a few pennies of the price of supermarket goods. He congratulated the students of local schools whose imagination has been fired by the cause of fairness.

The Directory lists all the local businesses and organisations who support Fairtrade and offer its produce to their customers. Next month we shall be publishing the full roll of honour!
Our photo shows Jamie with the students and their banner. Also present are Egremont Town Council Chair, June Bland, Copeland Council Leader, Elaine Woodburn, and Ann Snape, Marketing Officer for the Regeneration Partnership.
