Brilliant Dad Celebrates Age

Phil Burney of Egremont was the subject of the winning photograph in the Age Concern Celebration of Age photography competition. The photograph was taken by Phil’s son-in-law Marton Storr of Bigrigg and won the pair £200. Phil, who at the age of 72 still loves to walk the highest mountains, is as fit as a fiddle and can easily put someone many years younger to shame with his fitness and love of the outdoors. Phil always loves a challenge, especially when in the summer of 2006 he walked the Ennerdale Horseshoe, setting off at 4am arriving back at 7pm; it was a lifetime ambition fulfilled and a massive achievement. He’s a brilliant dad and a great inspiration to all his family and friends.

New ‘Money Wise’ Project
from Age Concern

‘Money Wise’ is a new service available from Age Concern North West Cumbria which can provide support on a wide range of financial issues to help over 55s in Allerdale and Copeland maximise income and manage their finances.

It has information on issues such as opening and managing bank accounts, simple budgeting systems, claiming benefits, applying for grants, using the new direct payments and individual budgets, care charges, dealing with problems with bills and low level debt etc… It can also put people in touch with more specialist agencies who can help with complex financial issues, such as tax, higher level debt, or accessing affordable credit.

Sarah Fee, Money Wise Project Co-ordinator, said: "Improving your finances will mean that you will be better able to meet the costs of general living, and still have money left over for social and leisure activities, which will improve your whole quality of life."

Specialist Project Workers in Whitehaven, Cleator Moor and Maryport will be happy to help you with any query, either over the telephone, at their office or where appropriate, through a home visit.

For more information on the ‘Money Wise’ service, contact 01946 68998.
