"Give Respect, Get Respect" was the message proudly
displayed on tops and tee shirts won by dozens of young
The event had been organised by Cumbria Police Force and co-ordinated by Police Community Support Officer, Charlotte Davies. It was natural that Charlotte, one of the stalwarts of Windscale Ladies Football Club, should think of a tournament like this to highlight the need for socially responsible behaviour. She was also able to call on her team mates, Bev Faulder, Sharon Cameron and Sarah Burnyeat to coach eager young players in football skills. The proceeds of the event will bring practical and financial support for a local nursery which has become a victim of anti-social bahaviour recently. Open Gates Nursery has been the victim of criminal damage that has made it unsafe for the children to play. The proceeds of the event will be donated to the Nursery to help with the clean up costs and protect it against vandalism in future. The event was sponsored by Cumberland Building Society. Egremont’s Assistant Branch Manager Abbi Sandham, said, "Cumberland Building Society is delighted to aid Cumbria Police Force in tackling the issue of anti-social behaviour and highlight the effects of such behaviour on the community." Egremont Today will make our own contribution to this fund on behalf of our readers.. Our pictures show, inset, Abbi Sandham handing over a cheque on behalf of Cumberland Building Society to Stephanie Gribbin of Open Gates, attended by Wendy Tinnion, Charlotte Davies, Jan Casey, Lynn Ashburne and Anne-Marie Moffatt, and below, action from one of the games and the teams from St Bridget's School.
