The faces as well as the voices of children from St Bees
Village School were a delight, as they responded to every gesture and
expression of their conductor Hilary Booth and the sensitive accompaniment
of Michael Milner. Together with the recently formed Cleator Moor Band, with
its many talented young players, they were there to help the newly formed
Blue Skies support group for people suffering from mental illness. The Band,
too, under their conductor, Deborah Hill, made Cleator Moor proud with a
very lively performance of a wide range of popular music, including songs
from the shows as well as traditional marches, like the Radetsky, which
finished their performance. The choir also sang their hearts out in Egremont Parish
Church, to celebrate both Ascension Day and St Mary and St Michael's 125th
anniversary. The thrilling voice of Helen Moore roused the audience with
songs from 'My Fair Lady', 'Cats', and 'Porgy and Bess', before finally
inviting themto join in'The Holy City.' Solos by Colin Gates and Audrey
Stoddart and several songs by members of the Parish Church choir contributed
to a rich musical evening, while David Ivey and Connie Watson also
contributed to the entertainment. |
