Happy Walking Buses Converge on Orgill

With punctuality that Stagecoach might envy, the walking bus from Ashlea Road to Orgill School swung round from Baybarrow Road to the footpath between Shakespeare Avenue and Wordsdworth Close at precisely 8.30am on Wednesday 4th June. Looking extremely smart in their reflective jackets, ten children, accompanied by volunteer conductors in pink uniforms, had really enjoyed both the walk and the company, and the only complaint we heard was that the bus did not run every day of the week. They made their appointed rendezvous with the lollypot lady at 8.35, and marched into the hall in perfect order, just in time to meet the other bus which had made a slightly longer journey from Brisco Mount, down East Road, and through Smithfield.

Walking buses are such a brilliant idea. They ensure that the children enjoy healthy exercise and friendly company on their daily journeys to school all the while under responsible and caring supervision. They also allow mums and dads to leave their cars at home so that we can all breathe air that is a little less polluted by poisonous fumes and contribute a little less to the dangers of global warming. Like the children, we hope that these buses wil be able to run still more regularly to Orgill and that that this habit will catch on with more of our local schools.
