about Flood Danger

Concerned residents in the Old Bridge area of Egremont were glad to have a chance to explain to their MP, Jamie Reed, why they feared that the serious floods of five years ago could be repeated in an exceptional downpour. They pointed out an accumulation of rocks just beyond the bridge, which certainly impedes the flow of the river. By dredging the river at this point the misery of flooded houses could be avoided, but the Environment Agency has been slow to respond to these concerns.

Jamie, who has been deeply affected by the sight of the devastation that flooding can cause to the lives of families in his constituency left the scene in no doubt that this was a a matter he needed to take up with the Environment Agency.

THe MP's visit to Egremont gave him a chance to listen to the candid views of Egremont people. He spent an hour at the Farmer's Market to see Fair Trade produce and craft work as well as local farm produce on sale and also bought a book at the Esoteric Dreams Bookshop in St Bridget's Lane.
