Musicians Unite against Killer Disease

By 7pm the Falcon Club was already heaving with young people (and some not so young) eager to enjoy the live music provided by the richly talented local groups that had all signed to support, for free, a very special event. All the proceeds would go to provide more funds for the Meningitis Research Trust, which is already developing powerful vaccines that will offer protection from this killer disease that has snatched away so many beautiful and talented young people, including Lisa Bell, who died at the age of 15. It is the love she has left in the hearts of her innumerable friends that continues to inspire these wonderful events, asserting the claims for life in defiance of death and disease through the voice of their music.
On this occasion the musicians responding to the summons of impressario Lee Shackley included
Mazzoni, Shore, MT Arms, Quarry, Willy Bazooka & The Naughty Diplomats, John & Wayne, Adam Amor, Steph Wars, Gav McKew, Andrew Winter and special guests. Lee's own group, Shore, who won their way to the regional finals for promising young bands, were magnificent in what may be their final concert together as they go their separate ways to universities of their choice. Steph defied a sore throat to sing her heart out. We have asked her to send a copy of her own Cumbrian lyrics which clearly deserve attentive listening. She sang with Francis Dunnery at The Ship Launch in July and he describes her as "a real Cumbrian hometown girl and a great songwriter with a fantastic voice. I'm sure she'll do well wherever she goes." Willy Bazooka and the Naughty Diplomats is a very promising, fresh, cheeky boy band from West Lakes Academy. We are really sorry that we had to leave for another appointment before we could hear some of the bands, but we know that the atmosphere just got better and better that a fantastic £1654.64 was raised by the event, augmented by a further donation of £750 from Barclays Bank. In total, £26,000 has been raised to fight Meningitis in the name of Lisa.
