St Bees Poet’s Work Published in New York

Anthony Payne has just heard from New York publishers Noble House that they intend to publish his poem, ‘Message’, in a new anthology, ‘Favourite Memories’, which is due to be published in the Spring. He has kindly allowed us to share it with our readers, and we hope that you will all enjoy the relaxed and witty use of rhyme as much as we do.

Message

Please send me a sign -
Will you really be mine,
Or will I just pine evermore?
Send a message in Morse,
Take a galloping horse -
I’ll be waiting, of course, at the door.

Please send me a fax,
Just follow my tracks
And call for a taxi at three.
Light a large signal fire
Or just send me a wire
Or an e-mail sent via BT.

Say a word in my ear,
Put your car into gear
And don’t leave me here in the lurch.
Just flag down a chariot,
Catch me with a lariat,
And let’s go and marry at the church!

Looking for Something Unique?
Come to Lowes Court Gallery!

There really is an alternative to travelling more than a hundred miles to Metro Centre to face a bewildering choice of mass produced objects that may prove identical to what someone else has already bought the cherished object of your generosity. Step into Lowes Court Gallery and you will find an interesting choice of unique items hand produced by local artists and craftsmen.
Barbara Moulton shows her own individual style of handbags. Rachel Erwig offers high quality knit-ware, including baby jackets, children’s socks and mittens. For seasonal Christmas stockings and beaded hangings, look at Madeline Warren’s range before taking that long coach journey. Wooden Wonders by Steve Tomkinson include an impressive range of wooden clocks and coasters. If you are looking for jewellery look at Jane Haywood’s selection, while Graham Glyn offers a fascinating range of ceramics. Our photo shows Anthony Payne, author of the poem we publish above, admiring a lovely range of scarves, table, mats and scarves, the work of Steve Wilson who last month led a half term workshop on felt-making at the Market Hall.
