Dunnery Fund Helps Provide
Magnificent Library for Bookwell
Bookwell School is rejoicing in a beautiful new library, superbly equipped
with attractive books and furnished with child friendly carpets and bean bags.
The library was officially opened by retiring governor and former kitchen
manager, who was providing excellent dinners long before Jamie Oliver, Jennifer
Carver. Herself a former Bookwell pupil, and mother and grandmother of later
Bookwell pupils, Jennifer has donated a book in celebration of the Library's
opening.
Fundraising by Francis Dunnery has greatly helped the school to provide these
excellent resources for its pupils. Francis is determined that the Charlie and
Kath Dunnery Children's Fund should benefit all Egremont children, and having
supported his own old school, St Bridget's, last year, he has chosen old rival
Bookwell this year.
An auction of memorabilia held in The Ship Launch on July 15th raised more than
£1000, after the sale of fifty-seven cherished items. To round off a thrilling
evening, attracting fans from all over the country, Francis played in support of
local singer, Colin Nichol, and his band, and gave 15 year old fan, James, all
the way from Birmingham, his guitar to play while he had a breather, while his
dad, Baz, had a go on bass.
The following day saw the Golf Competition at St Bees. Two return flight tickets
to New York City were the first prize went to Carl Jackman from Egremont, and
Peter McVeigh was runner-up.
About £1500 was raised in an excellent weekend and we still have the sponsored
walk, the soccer camp and the concert to come in October. Next year, Francis
promises a live concert in the Castle Grounds, a Midsummer Night's Dream.
