On the 1st December a lorry arrived at the Remploy factory in
Cleator Moor and loaded 3891 Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes
along with blankets and knitted items for transportation to Wrexham
in Wales. A week later they set off from there on their journey to
the Crimea in the Ukraine and will eventually be handed out to
deprived children in that area in time for Christmas. This is the
second year that Crimean children will have received the West
Cumbrian boxes.
Dot Blaylock, Area Co-ordinator for the charity, would like to
extend her thanks for the generosity of various organisations
including local knitters, churches, schools, Women’s Institutes and
Mother’s Unions as well as those who donated boxes and those who
helped to fill them. In the present stringent economic climate West
Cumbrians still showed they had a charitable regard for their fellow
human beings and donated only 73 fewer boxes than they did in 2010.

The Fire Show
In the run-up to Christmas, what better way to spend
an evening than in front of a warm fire. Even better, why not find
out why things burn, some unusual ways to start a fire, and why
fireworks are different colours.
The Fire Show is 90 minutes of fiery and explosive fun, including a
15 minute interval for FREE refreshments.
Featuring the fabulous Fire Tornado, the awesome Cornstarch Hydrogen
explosions, and much more.
It takes place on Thursday 22nd December 7:30pm - 9:00pm
At the Market Hall, Market Street, Egremont, CA22 2DB
